How we protect your data

Who we are

ParkPie is a parking assistant app for Melbourne, Australia, operated by ParkPie (ABN pending). For privacy enquiries contact parkpie.owner@outlook.com.

What we collect

• Account information: your name, email address, and password (stored as a hashed value — we never store your plain text password).
• Location data: your device's GPS coordinates while the app is in use, used solely to display relevant parking restrictions. We do not sell or share your precise location with third parties.
• Parking session data: session start and end time and approximate location (suburb and street level, not exact coordinates). Used in aggregate to build availability information for other users.
• User-contributed sign data: images and location of parking signs you voluntarily submit. This data becomes part of our shared dataset and may be visible to other users.
• Device and usage data: device type, iOS version, app version, crash reports, and error logs — used only to improve app stability.

What we do not collect

• We do not collect precise real-time location in the background without your explicit consent.
• We do not collect contacts, photos beyond those you voluntarily submit, or any data unrelated to parking.
• We do not build advertising profiles or sell your data to advertisers.

How we use your data

• Account info — authentication and account management.
• Location — displaying relevant parking restrictions and map features.
• Session data — powering parking availability features in aggregate.
• Sign contributions — building and improving our parking sign database.
• Usage and crash data — app stability and debugging.

Data sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share data in the following limited circumstances:

• Service providers: we use AWS S3 for cloud storage. These providers process data only on our behalf and are bound by confidentiality obligations.
• Aggregated data: availability and session information shared with other users is aggregated and anonymised — it cannot be used to identify you.
• Legal obligations: we may disclose information if required by Australian law, a court order, or a government authority.

Storage & retention

Your data is stored on servers in Australia (AWS ap-southeast-2, Sydney region). We use encrypted data transmission (TLS) and secure token storage on your device via the iOS Keychain. Session and location data used for availability calculations is anonymised after 90 days. We retain your account data for as long as your account is active.

Your rights

Under the Australian Privacy Principles you have the right to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you. To exercise any of these rights email parkpie.owner@outlook.com. We will respond within 30 days. You may also complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au if you believe we have breached your privacy.

Children

ParkPie is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or an in-app notice. Continued use of ParkPie after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
